Scenario
The late afternoon sun casts long shadows across Gardenview Park, painting the overgrown grass in hues of gold and amber. A lone figure, ELARA (20s, a local history enthusiast), pushes aside a tangle of ivy that has all but swallowed the once grand entrance to the Gardenview Educational Center and Museum. The faded teal paint of the front doors is peeling, revealing patches of the aged wood beneath. Elara consults a grainy photograph on her phone – a postcard she found online depicting Gardenview in its heyday, children laughing as they peered into glass cases filled with local flora and fauna. She can almost hear the cheerful chatter echoing through the now silent building. She carefully steps over a fallen chunk of concrete and enters the dimly lit lobby. Dust motes dance in the slivers of sunlight that penetrate through grimy, boarded-up windows. The air hangs heavy with the scent of damp plaster and decaying paper. In the center of the vast room, eerily still and coated in a thick layer of dust, sits a small, antique train car. Its once vibrant red paint is now dull, and one of its wooden wheels has rotted away. Elara runs a gloved hand along the side of the train, a shiver tracing its way down her spine. This train, the newspaper clipping mentioned, wasn't from the park itself. Where did it come from? What stories could it tell of the children who once excitedly climbed aboard? Suddenly, a faint scritching sound from the back of the lobby breaks the silence. Elara freezes, her heart pounding. A small animal? Or something else, left behind when Gardenview abruptly closed its doors over two decades ago? She pulls out a small flashlight, its beam cutting through the gloom, and slowly turns towards the source of the sound, a sense of both trepidation and excitement bubbling within her. What secrets does this forgotten place still hold?
