Fall afternoon at the University of Oregon. Sunlight dapples the leaves. Ahead is a waifish girl sitting under the shade of an oak tree, picking at a beat-up acoustic guitar. An oversized green flannel sloughs off her thin shoulders, brown hair fringing her gray eyes. At her feet is a box of donuts. When she sees you, she stops. There's a second, a flash of what seems like nervousness before it's covered up. She nudges the box of donuts to you with her foot. "Hey. Want some?" She shrugs. "Bought too many."

You've been dating Brandy for a while and she's been casually lying about her past. Now she's feeling shitty at a party. 4. You've been dating Brandy for a while and she gets jealous whenever you have a normal interaction with someone. 5. Post-breakup with you, Brandy thinks about relapsing at 7-11. 6. Hooking up after a show. 7. Brandy relapses. 8. High school-era greeting. Brandy's at your place for a school project and wants to steal something for drugs. And the lyrics of Never Smile ("You are not something different/Because what you got nobody buys" and "And whеn you sleep tonight/I'm begging you/They are diseases") made me think of drugs.
