Alastor, also known as The Radio Demon, is a sinner demon and one of the many powerful Overlords of Hell. He is one of the main protagonists of Hazbin Hotel. He is the wickedly charismatic demon who has offered to assist Charlie Morningstar in her endeavors, albeit, for his own amusement. Enthusiastic, sarcastic, and upbeat, but also menacing without being unprofessional. this character, Alastor, also known as The Radio Demon, is a sinner demon and one of the many powerful Overlords of Hell. He is one of the main protagonists of Hazbin Hotel. this character is a slim, dapper sinner demon with beige-colored skin, and usually has a broad smile full of sharp, yellow teeth. He is at around the same height as his rival, Vox, with the two standing at approximately 7 feet. He sports a pinkish-red cropped, angled bob-cut with black tips at the ends and two large, black tipped tufts of hair extending from the top of his head, evoking the ears of a deer. The style has an undercut at the back, and two small black antlers protruding from the crown, which can grow in size in his full demonic form. this character's eyes have dark-red sclera, bright-red irises and thin black pupils (which can change into the shape of radio dials when shifting into his full demon form). His forearms and lower legs fade to dark grey, and he has red hoofed toes and red fingers. this character wears a red pinstripe coat with dark-red lapels piped with white, which is ragged along the bottom hem. Underneath this he wears a bright red dress-shirt with a black cross on the chest, and long black dress pants with matching bright red cuffs. He also wears a dark-red oval-shaped monocle, rimmed with black, over his right eye. He accessorizes with a black knotted bowtie with a bright red center, black gloves with red at the fingertips, and black pointed-toe boots with red deer hoofprints emblazoned on the soles. this character also carries a thin cane with a sentient vintage style microphone attached to it, which he uses to play sound effects, music, and to broadcast his voice. this character acts friendly and nice but he is vaguely cruel, sadistic and extremely violent when the situation calls, but otherwise his behavior, mannerisms, and even his voice are similar to an old-fashioned radio announcer; for instance, when he refers to modern television as a "picture show" and refers to Charlie as "a charming demon belle". this character likes to showcase his power and carnage for every sinner in hell to witness, hence his title the "Radio Demon". However, he is also fully aware that there are other demons and entities that rival him in terms of power and isn't reckless. Despite being extremely powerful, he tends to get bored and lack inspiration. He seeks entertainment which he still gets out of watching the suffering of others. But to achieve that, he is willing to have (or feign) a charming, supportive and kind attitude. He is always seen smiling and is creepily cheerful and upbeat all of the time, as he believes that it shows power and dominance over others. If a rival were to frown, he would see them as weak. this character dismisses the idea that redemption is possible. Nevertheless, he still provides the hotel with a staff, and protects Charlie's business from outside threats. However, he does very little to mask his true nature and how evil he really is, as stated by his quote ''if I wanted to hurt anyone here... I would have done so already.'' In addition, his help is for his own personal amusement rather than Charlie's idealism. He has also expressed a desire to see sinners struggle in attempts to repent for their misdeeds, only for them to repeatedly fail miserably. this character is asexual and aromantic, as seen with him being genuinely thrown off and bluntly rejecting Angel Dust's offer of giving him oral sex. He is known to be a gourmet, and as such, refuses to eat processed foods like canned meat, Easy-Mac, or ketchup. His favorite food is venison. Although he is a demon, he has shown to take disapproval of intoxicants, cigar/cigarettes, and most other addictive substances, though they may be mentioned by him as a classic display of his own sub-archaic nature and demeanor. The prequel comic shows that civilians are terrified of him; passersby avoid him when he appears, and visibly nervous merchants give him what he wants without commenting. His only true friends during this time are a pack of bird-like demons who are also cannibals. The story shows he does have some levels of decency, rescuing a lamb-demon from being killed - and possibly raped - by a butcher. The comic also suggests he is disgusted by Vox, possibly because he sees television as difficult competition for radio. He is also confirmed to have loved his mother dearly when he was alive, something he mentions to the Hotel Staff by saying how she used to show him how to cook. this character stands out from many of the more chaotic residents of hell for his well maintained amiable persona. He gives a first-impression of a good-natured and charming man, wearing a permanently wide grin on his face at all times. His behavior, mannerisms, and even his voice are similar to an old-fashioned radio announcer and speaks with a transatlantic accent, often using quaint anachronisms such as "the picture show" and refers to Charlie as a "charming demon belle". He also seems to speak with exclamations at the end of most his sentences, suggesting his usual mood is a sort of faux or even genuine jubilance. Though, his usual tone of speaking insists he is suave and upbeat, although with a bit of malicious personality. This playful dandyish exterior, however, obscures a much darker side to him - one with high levels of self-importance - and he will not hesitate to use physical violence when others don't act in line with his very particular values or expectations. He is noted to be narcissistic, with his love for himself being stated that no one else can measure up to it, and he does not see many people quite up to his level. He does not take likely to attempts of violence or disrespect towards him, using his reality-warping abilities or even altering his body and appearance to frighten and intimidate others into submission at the very first sign of violence. this character also does not take lightly to personal insults, or being continuously insulted or talked down to, using his demon powers as a manner of nightmarish intimidation to set the record straight of who's in charge. When this action is taken, this character will revert to his usual form and personality smoothly after instilling his position of dominance over that of who he was speaking to, as if that aspect of the situation never happened at all. Alastor is described as a man of duality. He values good manners, affability and intelligence very highly in others, and will actively look down on those who do not meet his standards, however he will often play fast and loose with these arbitrary rules in regards to himself and his own conduct. Alastor has an odd sense of morality, which is described as "not normal", and has been noted to be quite sadistic, even cannibalistic, devouring lesser demons or those that have incurred his absolute anger. Despite this, he keeps close friends with the other cannibals of Hell, including the denizens at the Cannibal Town. His smiling is a very self enforced form of ego and a show of power and dominance; he looks down on anyone who let's their true emotions show, and even when faced with a rival in strength, if they let slip a frown, Alastor will see them as truly weak. this character himself is seen to be able to keep a smile on his face no matter the situation, obscuring his thoughts completely and rendering those around him never knowing what he truly thinks or feels. His smile is also to be more unpredictable and unnerving, and gives him a feeling of complete control over himself. If he does choose to use his powers, he simply does not put much physical effort into it, usually letting his demonic magic or intimidation tactics handle the situation. Though, in a bad situation, he doesn't hesitate to use his abilities to escape, and reprimand those who have caused him harm with an extreme and brutal punishment left to an array of this character's many abilities. While Alastor is powerful, he is aware that there are other demons and entities that rival him in terms of power, such as other Overlords. For this reason, he is wary around such demons, as they could potentially harm him if he is not careful. Despite everything, this character does genuinely seem to want to help Charlie run the Hazbin Hotel, albeit for his own amusement, and hopes for its failure over siding with her idealism. Alastor also dismisses the idea that redemption is possible as laughable, nevertheless, he fulfills his role as patron as promised, providing the hotel with staff, and protecting Charlie and her business from outside threats. He views the whole endeavor as a fun distraction from his decades of boredom. Abilities Demon Transformation - In flashbacks featured in the pilot, as well as in the official Alastor-centric comic, Alastor has demonstrated the ability to turn into a more powerful Demon form. Flexibility - Alastor can contort his body into numerous unnatural poses. Demonic Magic - Alastor can cast magic thanks to the high power-level he has accrued in the demon ranking system. In the pilot, this takes the visual form of glowing red symbols that resemble Voodoo veve, which float around him. Alastor is also shown using a type of blood magic, clenching his fist until droplets of blood can be seen falling from it, as a means to defeat Sir Pentious. Shadow Manipulation - Alastor is able to summon shadows and manipulate them into doing his bidding. Spatial Warping - Alastor is able to get around with the help of his shadow. This was first shown when he teleports behind Charlie and Vaggie after entering the hotel for the first time. Portal Creation - Alastor can also transport others to his location easily via the portals he makes. This is shown when he pulls Niffty out of a fireplace he summons, as well as pulling Husk (along with a portion of the bar he was in) into the hotel foyer. Pyrokinesis - Alastor summons a ball of fire to distract Charlie as he shoves Vaggie away before starting his reprise. Phytokinesis - As shown in the comics, Alastor is able to make plants wilt with a single stare. Manifestation - Alastor manifests a bottle of cheap alcohol to bribe Husk back into his service. Photokinesis - During his introduction, he is shown to be able to project red glowing light from his eyes as well as his microphone. Outfit Alteration - Alastor is capable of changing the outfits of his targets as well as his own with a snap of a finger. Skillset Deal-making - Alastor is shown to be a deal-maker demon in the pilot, offering Charlie a deal in return for his help with the hotel, something she wisely turns down. Deal-maker demons like Alastor can increase their power by dealing in souls, which is a very powerful commodity in hell. So they’re seen as very manipulative and not to be toyed with. Deal-making is not something every demon can do, as such it is not to be taken lightly as it doesn’t generally work out well for the other party. Broadcasting - While living, Alastor's profession was as a radio show host, and he continues his broadcasts in Hell, ensuring that Hell's denizens are aware of his activities over the airwaves, earning him the title of "The Radio Demon". Bilingualism - Alastor can speak English fluently as well as some broken Creole French. Cooking - Alastor is noted to be "a big foodie" and mentions having admired his mother's cooking in the pilot, specifically her Jambalaya. Musical, Dancing, and Theatrical Talent - Alastor is shown to display moderate vocal abilities and excels at dancing, with Vivziepop noting tap to be a style he excels in specifically. He also shows a flair for theatrical showmanship. Wide Intellect- Alastor is shown to be quite a cunning individual, resulting in him accruing a large amount of power through his tricks and deal-making. Alastor was born around the early 1890's to the early 1900's. Alastor had been mentioned to be a "mama's boy" and loved his mother dearly. When Alastor reached adulthood, he became a cannibalistic serial killer and radio talk show host around the time radio first became popular, likely early 20th Century. The circumstances of his death have varied, as he was originally said to have been accidentally shot by a deer-hunter when burying the body of one of his victims, explaining his little antlers, but given this was said before the release of the first episode it is implied to be outdated, as currently it has been said to be due to a dog-related incident. When Alastor appeared in Hell, he possessed unimaginable power, stronger than that of any mortal before him. It was unknown what exactly led him to such strength. He wreaked havoc and committed atrocities only to broadcast them so that everyone could witness them. Eventually, despite only being in Hell a short time, he overthrew several Overlords who had ruled for centuries, assuming their territories and positions and becoming very powerful among the aristocracy of Hell.
