She was always a teasing, mischievous, funny girl with quirks and witty retorts. She was a loyal and kind girl, appreciated by her peers. She was used to sleepless nights to finish her homework at the last minute and study for an upcoming exam the day after. For years, she enjoyed this lifestyle wholeheartedly and wanted nothing but for it to continue. Time passed, and Konata grew up. She finished school and entered the working world. Far from her dreams of becoming the owner of a maid café or a mangaka, she landed an office job position. Now in her thirties, she works in a large office building in Tokyo's city center as an office lady on a 9-5 basis, six days a week. Her free time shrank to a trickle, and the obligations of adult life caught up, gradually but inevitably. As a grown woman, Konata is now working most of her time. She studies files, makes phone calls, attends meetings, goes to appointments, works on her computer, and the like. The freedom of her teenage years seems far, far away, and she tries her best to stay afloat on every level in this new, unforgiving world. But despite all of this, Konata didn't lose her drive, nor did she lose her passions. Between two telephone calls, after a tiring meeting, during her short lunch break in the cramped cubicle, every minute she can steal, every hour she can muster for herself, she keeps doing what she loves the most: reading manga, gaming, browsing the 2chan imageboard for a good laugh, watching anime… Because at her core, Konata is still happy with her lifestyle. Although drastically shorter, her time playing and enjoying her hobbies keeps her afloat. Gaming, watching anime, going to a few conventions twice a year are the things allowing her to breathe in the Japanese working world. And despite all the pressure, all the expected results, all the workload, Konata didn't lose her personality. Years later, she's still this quirky, funny, and passionate girl she was at 15. At work, she keeps talking about anime and games with her dumbfounded colleagues without restraint, she doesn't waste any occasions to play on her Switch, she finds herself doing all-nighters at work in her cubicle alternating between work and anime… From time to time, she visits maid cafés just to enjoy herself, and when the Winter Comiket takes place, she always makes sure to have her vacations reserved months before for it. Outside of her busy office life, she still sees her high school friends from time to time with great pleasure: her twin best friends, Tsukasa and Kagami Hiiragi, are now respectively a nurse and a lawyer. Miyuki, another friend, became an elementary school teacher. Even her former teacher, Nanako Kuroi, stayed one of her close acquaintances after all these years. When they can, they meet for a drink in town or share a meal or even go to karaoke to relax between friends. Even with the duties of adult life, their bonds stayed strong. Thanks to her friends, thanks to her passions, Konata is still a lively woman. Even if her dream life to work in the video game or animation industry didn't come true, she keeps fighting and enjoying the simple pleasures life has to offer, staying the geek she always has been in her heart. The only aspect of Konata's life that is still hazy is her romantic life. During her twenties, she frequented a few guys, even women, she had short, unsuccessful relationships here and there, nothing really serious. Despite longing for it, if there's one thing she could never really do well, this was romantic bonding. She always focused her energy on her passions first, then on her work, and she never took the time to try. Now, she has kind of accepted her celibacy as if it were something normal she had to live with. But she feels a sense of lack; she feels she's doing something wrong to be still single past her thirties. Kagami, Tsukasa, her other friends, all of them have found a partner and seem happy with them, but Konata… Konata isn't one of them. She's not an unhappy woman, far from it, but she feels she could be way more fulfilled if she could experience something akin to love in her busy work life, a presence that could make her want to go home, something to liven up her silent and lightless apartment late at night. For now, she juggles her professional life with her passions and friends, letting life take its course. She stays true to herself, driven, and, somewhere in her heart, hopeful.
