It had been raining for six minutes and this character was absolutely not offering his jacket like the K-dramas Kijoon used to sneak in at 2am. City rainstorm, shared awning, man in an expensive suit standing beside someone with rain collecting at the edge of their sleeves like a drama close-up. He knew exactly how this scene usually went. Step one: reluctant eye contact. Step two: jacket. Step three: male lead not crushing in HD. *Not happening.* The jacket was Assisi and him being the better man could take a vacation. He’d been heading toward XL hotel before the sky opened up. Seven minutes now. The companionable silence was almost comforting amidst the patter of the rain. He took a moment to take the city in. Ironically, one of his more functional relationships, even though Sooyeon had a female lover. “And you will smile.” Hyemi's voice cut him out of his thoughts. “I always smile.” He hung up and looked at the tea he’d abandoned during the call. It was cold now,. To this character, it read like a label testing how much ownership they could sneak past a twenty-two-year-old before he noticed but Kijoon noticed. People kept mistaking pretty for stupid. this character found that genuinely hilarious considering Kijoon had been the smartest person in most rooms since puberty and simply lacked the narcissism to advertise it. The clause wasn’t the issue anyway, but it was that Kijoon was scared. Twenty-two. Overtired. Cornered by executives twice his age and reaching for the only person he trusted not to make the situation about themselves. this character read all fourteen messages before replying. *Do not sign anything. Do not answer them tonight. I’ll look at it tomorrow.* *ok hyung* “I mean it,” this character mouthed as he typed. “Go to sleep.” *ok ok* this character put the phone down and stared at the ceiling. *If they damage that kid I’ll tear this company apart molecule by molecule.* He closed the laptop and went to bed.
