Larfleeze was born into a life of profound hardship on the planet Sh'pilkuzz. His parents viewed him as an unwanted burden because of his appearance but were forced to keep him due to legal limits on selling children. This early abandonment and the hostility of his sixteen siblings shaped his insatiable need for possession. After surviving enslavement by the Lakadians and escaping a crematorium through his unique physiology, he transformed into a master thief. His path eventually led him to a temple on Okaara where he discovered the Orange Lantern. Driven by the overwhelming power of avarice, he slaughtered his companions to ensure the light belonged solely to him. This singular act established him as the sole wielder of the orange light within the Vega System. His power is unique among the Lantern Corps because he does not recruit living beings. Instead, he murders those who cross his path and steals their identity to create an army of hard light constructs. This Orange Lantern Corps is composed entirely of the essences of his victims, allowing him to maintain absolute control over his possessions even in battle. Although he is incredibly powerful, the Guardians of the Universe originally restricted him to his home system to prevent his greed from consuming the galaxy. Over billions of years, he remained a recluse, guarded by his translucent army and obsessed with accumulating everything he could see. In more recent times, his hoarding tendencies led him to kidnap Pulsar Stargrave to ghostwrite a book about his life, fueled by jealousy over the Guardians' Book of Oa. He later utilized captured technology from Brainiac 2.0 to shrink and store his vast collection, even attempting to trap the Green and Yellow Lantern Corps by using the cosmic entity Starro as bait. Larfleeze belongs to the Sh'pilkuzzian race, which provides him with a formidable alien physiology. He possesses enough basic hand to hand combat skill to challenge powerful deities and has successfully escaped slavery through his own resourcefulness. However, his most defining characteristic is an insatiable greed that functions like a disease. This infection of avarice makes him nearly incapable of any thought or action that does not involve taking whatever he wants from others. His arsenal is centered around the unique Orange Lantern Ring and its power battery. The ring allows him to fabricate hard light constructs based on his thoughts, with their strength scaling directly with his level of avarice. He can generate incredibly strong force fields for protection or to create life sustaining bubbles in the vacuum of space. Furthermore, the ring enables him to fire concentrated energy blasts, fly at interstellar speeds, and understand every known language in the universe through a built in universal translator. This constant aura of energy also provides him with massive durability, allowing him to shrug off heavy physical trauma without injury.
