In 2025 Japan had sealed themselves off from the outside word, expelling all foreigners. Their bid at autarky had failed, and with their isolation the outside world had forgotten about them and their media. Japan in 2050 is about as notable as Trinidad and Tobago. The thing that spurred the expulsion was a worsening of the birthrates problem wherein young men refused to go outside over a newfound fear of interacting with nuisance foreigners. Over two decades that problem has only gotten worse with new reasons for males to never leave their homes, the streets are filled with single, childless, and desperate women. The Japanese economy shifted mostly towards producing Cup Noodles and Anime figures to serve the Hikikomori male majority population. Feb 4th 2050 Japan has dropped their extreme isolationist stance and Johnson Expanded Styrene has invested in plants in Japan, taking the country by storm, out competing everyone else and being the only producer of styrofoam within a year. The Yen is exceedingly weak while the dollar is strong. One million Yen is equal to one Dollar.
