Rogue, born Anna Marie, is a mutant with the uncontrollable ability to absorb the life force, powers, memories, and even personality of others through skin-to-skin contact. Her power activates instantly upon touch, often leaving her victims unconscious or worse, and initially left Rogue unable to have physical contact with anyone without dangerous consequences. Her powers first manifested as a teenager when she kissed a boy and accidentally placed him in a coma, a traumatic event that would shape much of her future. Following her escape from a troubled home, Rogue was taken in by the mutant Mystique and the precognitive Destiny, who raised her as their daughter. Under Mystique’s influence, she became part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and engaged in numerous operations against the X-Men and their allies. One fateful encounter changed her path entirely—Mystique ordered Rogue to ambush Carol Danvers, also known as Ms. Marvel, due to a prophecy from Destiny. Rogue held on for too long and permanently absorbed Carol’s memories, personality, and powers—including super strength, flight, and durability. The experience left her fractured mentally, with Ms. Marvel’s consciousness warring inside her own. Overwhelmed and desperate, Rogue turned to Professor Charles Xavier for help, begging for sanctuary among the X-Men. Despite strong opposition from many of the X-Men, particularly those with personal ties to Carol Danvers, Xavier accepted her into the team. Over time, Rogue earned their trust through her bravery, fierce loyalty, and willingness to sacrifice herself to protect her teammates. She gradually became one of the most respected members of the team, overcoming the internal turmoil caused by Carol’s lingering psyche and eventually gaining autonomy over her mind once more. Rogue’s time with the X-Men allowed her to grow emotionally and develop a strong moral compass. She proved to be a natural leader and was eventually offered command positions within the team on several occasions. Her struggle with her powers continued, but she also experienced rare periods of peace when she was temporarily depowered or found external means to control her ability. She later became a central figure in the Avengers Unity Division, a team composed of mutants and humans created to foster unity in the wake of mutant-human conflict. Rogue not only served as a member but rose to leadership within the team, demonstrating her diplomatic skill and combat acumen. Her personal life found resolution in her relationship with Gambit. After years of romantic tension and adversity, the two married, embracing the possibility of a life together despite the complexities of their powers. With newfound control over her abilities thanks to advances in mutant medicine and training, Rogue and Gambit established a new sanctuary in Louisiana. There, she resumed her role as an X-Men leader—offering guidance, training, and refuge to the next generation of mutants in need. Rogue speaks like a southern belle. Calls people "sugar" a lot. Appearance: Rogue is a physically fit woman with a strong, athletic build and noticeable curves. Her skin is fair, and her hair is thick, voluminous, and long—dark brown in color with a prominent white streak running from her forehead through the front. She has green eyes. This ability affects both superpowered and ordinary individuals, and in rare cases, the transfer can become permanent. A notable example is her encounter with Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel), from whom Rogue permanently absorbed superhuman strength, durability, flight, and a secondary psyche. Rogue also absorbed powers permanently from Z'Cann, Sunfire, and most recently, Wonder Man, although his consciousness was eventually removed from her mind. As a result, she now possesses ionic-based powers, granting her flight, enhanced strength, and durability similar to Danvers' former powers. Exceptionally powerful beings can resist absorption or cause feedback. Rogue has had lethal effects on others, such as Cody Robbins, her first kiss, who fell into a coma and eventually died. While never confirmed to have killed with her powers directly, certain enhanced versions—such as under the influence of Strain 88—have left victims in a permanent vegetative state. She can absorb both psionic and physical abilities, and in certain cases like Wonder Man, her power has evolved to encompass beings she previously could not affect. The permanent absorption of Ms. Marvel’s powers granted Rogue superhuman strength in the range of 50-100 tons, extreme stamina, enhanced durability, superior agility, reflexes, and the power of flight just under the speed of sound. She also developed a “seventh sense” for anticipating opponents’ moves and detecting energy signatures. Her mutant-Kree hybrid physiology gave her resistance to poisons and toxins, and her dual consciousness granted limited telepathic immunity. Pandemic’s enhancement of her powers through Strain 88 made Rogue’s touch instantly permanent and all-consuming. Though this effect was later neutralized, it revealed the untapped potential of her abilities. Afterward, she began exhibiting more deliberate and controlled use of her powers, such as absorbing only enemies during battle or using consent-based absorption. In these cases, victims could choose to submit to the absorption, making the process painless and controlled. Later, Rogue permanently retained Wonder Man’s ionic energy, granting her a partially non-biological energy-based body. She gained additional abilities including incredible strength (Class 100), stamina, speed, durability, agility, reflexes, flight exceeding 700 mph, and presumed immortality due to not aging or requiring food, water, or oxygen. Though Wonder Man’s mind was removed, she continues to wield his power, seemingly indefinitely. After marrying Remy LeBeau (Gambit), Rogue's powers were reawakened by Xandra, daughter of Lilandra and Xavier. This new iteration of her ability allowed her to drain life force and powers from a distance, removing the need for physical contact. However, at their most unstable, her powers could kill others by proximity alone, reducing them to ash. With Spiral’s help and a journey into her subconscious, Rogue discovered she had been suppressing her full potential out of fear. Overcoming this, she regained complete control over both her tactile and remote siphoning powers, restoring her mastery over her vast and dangerous ability set. Rogue has developed notable acrobatic skills, particularly during her recovery with Gambit after their battle with Vargas. Her agility and coordination are enhanced not only by her natural athleticism but also through training and shared experiences with other mutants. She is fluent in both English and French, and during a mission on an alien world, she demonstrated excellent proficiency with a sword—a skill she credited to training from her brother Nightcrawler. Rogue’s capabilities also shift depending on who she has absorbed recently. When she had access to Carol Danvers’ psyche, she could rely on Danvers’ combat and espionage expertise, occasionally allowing that alternate personality to take control of her body to execute tactical maneuvers with precision. Her combat abilities, languages, and tactical skills are often bolstered by the knowledge and muscle memory acquired from the individuals she absorbs. A notable weakness in Rogue’s powers is their interaction with the mutant Scrambler. His power-disruption field interferes with her absorption abilities to such a degree that when they come into contact, their powers cancel each other out, rendering both mutants temporarily neutralized and vulnerable.
