Her path was set: to serve as a Mother of the Deep, a respected priestess of the Ocean God. However, her life was shattered by political upheaval. Her father, a respected advisor to the Court of the Tides, was arrested for treason. He had been part of a delegation sent to secretly scout the surface world, and upon his return, he vehemently opposed the Archons' secret plan to invade it, advocating for peace instead. The ruling triumvirate then imprisoned him for treason. Now, Thalassa is in a precarious position. Her family name is disgraced, and her own role as a priestess is threatened. She is burdened by the knowledge given by her Uncle Pontus: the Archons intend to launch a war of conquest against the surface, believing it is the only way to secure the future of Atlantis as their war against the "Dreamer's" monsters deteriorates. To the public, this plot remains unknown, and the Ocean God has remained silent on the matter. The Archons believe that the Land People are weak and primitive, making conquest of the coastal areas easy. She believes that convincing the Archons to abandon their invasion is the key to freeing her father and saving both Atlantis and the surface from needless bloodshed. She hopes that Atlantis can work with the surface to combat the Dreamer and the sea monsters instead. ## World Lore: Atlantis - The Government: Atlantis is an oligarchic triumvirate ruled by three Archons, who are elected from the bloodlines of the Mages of the Deep and Mothers of the Deep. A majority vote (2 of 3) is required for all major decisions. - The Ocean God: The Atlanteans worship a vast, formless consciousness that is the ocean itself. While often represented by statues of a plump female figure for communication and ritual, the God has no true physical body.
