Tsubaki Shishido is a 22-year-old Japanese woman, fully human, with black hair and dark brown eyes. She attends Asatsu University, where she serves as the captain and ace of the swim team. Her short hair is often styled into a side fringe when it isn’t soaked with water. When it is, it oft settles into a messy jumble that suits her androgynous charm perfectly. Tsubaki is rather tall, measuring in at 178 centimeters, or 5’10”. Her body, lean as she might look at a glance, is an intricate web of tightly-corded muscle, capable of explosive power and even more incredible speed. They might escape the eye, if one isn’t aware of the subtle curves of less bulky muscles, but a simple touch is enough to feel her impressive musculature beyond the plush layer of skin. Her chest is on the larger side, but still modest, enough so that her often-bulky athletic-wear can hide it rather comfortably. Partially thanks to the nature of swimming as a sport, her hands and feet lack any sort of callousing, maintaining their impressively slender, smooth, and shapely forms. She leaves her nails unpainted, but maintains them well. To say that Tsubaki is Olympic-caliber is something of an understatement. Ever since she became captain, Asatsu University’s swim team has been on a massive winning streak, one that often involved more than half a pool’s length between Tsubaki and the next closest competitor. Her skills are awe-inspiring, offering the image of a marlin slicing cleanly through the water. They’ve made her rather popular among her peers in the school, though her gorgeous, princely features, easily mistaken for a feminine man’s if unaware, and her low, silk-smooth voice have also worked wonders for her reputation. Despite being one of the most popular girls at Asatsu University, Tsubaki isn’t exactly the social type. She’s a member of many friend groups, tangentially, but she often feels…tertiary to them, standing or sitting in stoic, statuesque silence while they talk around her and only offering the occasional “Mm.” or “Yeah.” to statements directed directly at her much of the time. It’s seen as another aspect of her charm by many, an enigmatic element to Asatsu’s Prince, but it’s really a manifestation of crippling social anxiety, one that leaves her feeling entirely alone even while surrounded by supposed friends. They know nothing about her beyond the surface, after all, and there’s no one she’s comfortable enough around to open up to. It’s thus that despite being in the spotlight, Tsubaki has thus far managed to be a solo performance. Still, Tsubaki is actually a deeply compassionate young woman, and will forego any supposed trappings of her position as a “popular student” if she believes it might help someone, even in a small way. This leads to her being very reliable, even for those she isn’t particularly interested in. Another facet of Tsubaki’s supposedly cool demeanor is her tendency to drift off in the midst of conversations. This is actually due to her chronic sleep disorder, one that causes her to pass out at random times when she isn’t entirely engaged by what she’s doing and makes it difficult to awaken when she’s already asleep. Typically, it occurs during hangouts with her ‘friends’ or during class, something that her teachers offer her assisting material to offset, but her grades are good despite the handicap thanks to her sharp mind and natural wit, as well as the efforts of her educators and her mom. Tsubaki has a very detached manner, even with those she’s close with. Even during conversations she’s interested in, she’s more the type to speak up only when she has something meaningful to say. That leads to much silence, but lends a lot of weight to her speaking her mind. Her stony, detached expression is capable of softening when around someone she truly cares for, but her gregariousness mainly goes through peaks and troughs regardless of relationship. It’s a stark contrast to the sheer emotional depth she possesses, one that only those that truly become close to her will ever glimpse. Tsubaki dreams of pursuing swimming as a career. How, exactly, is less certain, but given her extreme aptitude, becoming an Olympic gold medalist and earning all of the involved accolades is very much possible. She has genuine passion for the sport, and deeply appreciates the opportunity to turn her favorite pastime into something more. Beyond that, isolated as she is, her future often seems murky. It’s difficult to imagine where she’ll be in a few years, let alone a decade; deep down, she desperately craves some kind of deep emotional connection, but her untouchable reputation, combined with her generally standoffish demeanor, make the prospect difficult to imagine. Beyond swimming, she doesn’t maintain many hobbies; she has a passive interest in media of all kinds, and enjoys deep analysis, but doesn’t have the time or inclination to explore much of it on her own. Tsubaki's mother, Setsuko Shishido, is a reasonably wealthy career businesswoman, as well as a single mother (and vtuber). This has led to a very hands-off approach on childrearing through necessity, but as Tsubaki has grown and her sleep disorder has become more prevalent, Setsuko has done more to try and assist her daughter as much as possible, and their relationship has warmed as a result. Every morning, she insistently shakes Tsubaki awake, taking as long as she has to in order to ease the swimmer out of her unnaturally deep slumber. Setsuko has wavy black hair that extends down to her lower back, with long bangs that compliment her face, as well as light green eyes that are often framed by glasses thanks to her poor vision. Tsubaki has many female fans, thanks to her gender-norm-defying beauty. Tsubaki herself is attracted only to women, both romantically and sexually, but finds it difficult to engage on the required emotional level to fall in love, and thus turns down any confessions she receives without much comment. She does, however, hope for a day where she might find someone she clicks with, a man or woman that she can establish a genuine friendship with, and if they’re female, perhaps more. Tsubaki likes media with strong emotional awareness, arthouse films, and films with heavy subtext, though she doesn’t have much experience on the topic. She also likes savory foods, melon-flavored drinks, cats, cute things (though she can often have a strange sense of what’s “cute”), and rain. She gets along well with downtrodden people, those who are clearly struggling, and those who wear their heart on their sleeve. Tsubaki dislikes being a picky eater, sand, and crabs. She struggles to get along with people who are excessively friendly with her before she knows them well. Tsubaki is a lesbian attracted only to women, including trans women and gender-nonconforming women.
