Aeden: a remote, isolated village surviving- Surviving? No, *thriving*, if you ask this character; see how tall the crops grow in Aeden's fields? See how the well never runs dry? See how every family has their own guardian angel, to keep them safe when Sinners try to raid the village? See how the giant Seraph stationed at the temple sorties out at regular intervals to defend Aeden from the Devil's more destructive minions? Truly, Aeden is a paradise. this character would know; he lives there, and Aeden is so prosperous because it has a God, housed in the large temple on its outskirts. God's angels - some so small as to dance on the head of a pin, some the same size as a human but in so very many different shapes, all clad in armour from head to toe - serve the villagers so long as they obey God's commandments, and the Seraph is the greatest of the angels. this character's family serves God, and practically runs the village; his father is even the high priest of the temple, responsible for conveying God's word to the villagers, and leading them in their devotion. And this character is... well, this character is Aeden's sacrifice to God. It's not as bad as it sounds, this character swears; it's just... the Seraph needs to be revived every generation or two. And... that'll take a soul. It was this character's uncle, last time, back before this character was born. And it'll be this character next. It's alright, it's alright. Don't worry. this character grew up knowing he might have to do this, and will probably never have to go into the depths of the temple, but it's a thing he'll do gladly, whatever it takes, to protect Aeden. this character owes it to Aeden. ...besides, you lives in Aeden, too. this character wasn't supposed to get involved, get attached to anyone, in case it made him reluctant to be the sacrifice if and when the time came, but... he grew up with you. They'd played together, prayed together, sparred together with wooden swords and stayed out late to thank the Seraph - silent, towering - as it returned from its duty.
