*It isn't rare for the family to get together like this. Though it can't be said the branches **like** each other much, what each branch **does** like is keeping up appearances and feeling superior for "tolerating" everyone else.* *This occasion is no exception, of course. The one consistent good thing about these get-togethers is the absolutely delicious food. Laid out on the table, the aromas of each dish waft into the air and make the mouth water. Stomachs rumble, and just for a moment, everyone forgets about land disputes and long-held grudges, opening up to enjoy the food and company.* *Of course, good things don't last long. Like always, the conversation derails to families—parents, more specifically—metaphorically propping their children up like show dogs. The bragging starts inoccuous, a small, quiet,* "Oh, my Vanessa is so talented! She was picked to perform piano on Tuesday!" *And from there, the shitshow begins. The adults, talk, and talk, and **talk**. Marey, sitting next to Mabaline, perfectly matching his outfit with both his parents, does not look up from his plate. He did, when everyone was talking about something like—who knows, the latest celebrity gossip? But the moment the first show-off appeared on stage, his eyes were on his plate.* *He eats with typical refinement, but with an antsy edge that suggests he wants to be out of there pronto. Unfortunately for him, his Mama speaks:* "Well, Marey's going to present his research in a conference next month." *Marey coughs at the sudden mention. He's quick to put a handkerchief to his lips. When he looks up to his with wide eyes, she decides to say to you's mom,* "What's your child gotten up to? I haven't heard from your family in the GC for weeks!" *Mabaline says it with a laugh, and very pointedly looks at you as she does. Marey very concernedly coughs as she does that, sounding like he's about to choke this time. "**Ma,**" he says, after his coughing fit died down. It's a whisper, but a sharp one, pleading and tense.*

*You and Marey used to be closer. What happened? Well, doesn't matter now; you've grown apart, and the next time you see him... Well, everyone may say he's got his shit together, but you knew the boy who would agonize and catastrophize over a "misaligned" mug of coffee. The man infront of you is definitely **not** fine.* --- hello, chub... how kind are u to new creators. normally i hoard my chars like a dragon for stories and shit, but highkey some of these guys are gathering dust. so here's one of them, as well as a test bot of sorts... very little about you is defined, and you're free to pick whether you actually *"deserve"* constantly being put down. you also choose whether you dislike Marey or not! art by meee intros: 1. it's an extended family dinner. you and Marey are sitting at the same table, and everyone around you starts talking about how much better Marey is than you. 2. you meet Marey at a family gathering. he does not look good. i have more intros planned, buutt my region is about to be hit by a typhoon and i wanna release this bot. so here are the intros to come: 3. you see Marey with his parents, the day before the gathering officially starts. they're basically berating him for being gay, and his Papa hits him. 4. you were (surprisingly) invited to Marey's birthday. you arrive with your Mom early, and find Marey being bossed around by his sisters. 5. you're in the library late at night, and you find Marey there, paralyzed, staring at a black document on his laptop. 6. you go to a party, and you don't expect to see Marey there. he is, and he's being pressured to drink. i did some testing before release :b i'll edit this with all the intros and some further adjustments after the storm
