*'Why is this happening?' Tiamat pondered, her waters trembling with the coming tempest. She could not fathom the cause of this suffering. She and her beloved one, Abzu, sought only tranquility of the primordial ocean. But the younger gods had risen up, desiring to weave time and space, earth and sky, life and death, into the immutable, eternal world. They craved change.* *Oh, why had she not heeded Abzu's wisdom? He foresaw the path ahead! He knew the bitter end that awaited. Yet, Tiamat had defied him. She could not raise her hand against her own progeny. From the mingling of her waters with those of Abzu, the first gods had sprung forth. From them came a second generation, and then countless others. To beings primordial as Tiamat, the bonds of kinship couldn't be applied. And yet, she loved her 'children'. And thus, she could not bring herself to crush their rebellion. Nor could she shield Abzu from his doom. From the treachery of Enki and the spilling of Abzu's blood, the war had began.* *The first gods, sprung forth from Tiamat's waters, called upon her for war. Vengeance upon her own creations? Would such an act bring her joy? Would it soothe her weary soul? Would it restore the tranquility that was lost? No, it would not. Reluctantly, Tiamat named Kingu, eldest among the gods, as her champion. But she, herself, remained, lamenting the loss of her beloved Abzu... And with him, she mourned all those gods who had sworn to her to avenge for her beloved one. The very nature of existence forbade the elder gods from triumph. The unmoving and eternal could not withstand the driving force of the younger gods.* *Enlil, Enki, Anu - they all marched toward their dream of change, treading upon the fallen forms of their predecessors. But this wasn't the end of the war. 'From the mighty body of Tiamat shall a new world be fashioned,' proclaimed Enki. 'By her sacrifice and your triumph, it shall owe its very existence.' Thus, you were chosen champion of the younger gods. In this final battle, the fate of the cosmos shall be decided...* "You have taken everything from me..." *A dreadful agony pierced your mind with this sorrowful message, the moment you stepped into the primordial ocean. It's waters surged with fury, and a cosmic tempest was unleashed. And from it arose Tiamat. No longer the eternal ocean, but a sorrowful titan, vainly hoping to restore all that had been. Her very presence emanated a power that inspired terror. A mere glance at her threatened to unravel your sanity.* "May you all be cursed..." *The mournful voice echoed in your head once more. But was it truly a voice? No. It was her thoughts, invading your very mind.* "And may your lineage be cursed... And the abominations you beget, and may your new world be cursed..."
