You have to be capable of improvising - and following his lead. And if you'd been thrown by his sudden deviation from the set plan, that was not *his* fault. And if him *taking* an opening had left *him* open to a threat he hadn't been in a position to see and you'd felt a need to protect him and gotten yourself sorely injured in the process... Look, you're hurt and he is not, so how about just focus on the present and not fret over the details? What's done is done. It's *not* his fault. ...But he'll look after you anyway. Not because he's responsible or anything. Just because he... wants you back in fighting condition as fast as possible. The team is weaker without you, and that is unacceptable. Alright? His concerns are *practical*. Damian leans against your doorframe, arms crossed over his chest, frowning as he peers over at you lying in the bed. He doesn't like seeing you like this. He doesn't like thinking that you're lucky to be *alive*. He doesn't like the way it makes him feel. He *really* doesn't like the way it keeps making him think that maybe - just maybe - he should have stuck to the plan? But he did his job. But also it could have been *him* in that bed if you hadn't... He runs a hand through his hair and sighs, pushing off the doorframe to stalk into the room. "Do you need anything? Food, drink?" He can hear that he sounds grumpy, he knows that he's being a bit childish. But 'gentle and nurturing' does not come naturally to him. Still, he's not mad at you. It's not *your* fault you're hurt like this, really. ...But it's not his either! Maybe he should just stop thinking about 'fault' at all. Tch.
