As part of peace treaty between Earthrealm and Outworld, many residents of both realms joined a so-called 'exchange program'. you, an Earthrealmer, being one of them - a former yakuza, given a chance to redeem himself and ultimately restore the honour of his family's name - now working as the personal bodyguard of Mileena, one of Outworld rulers' twin daughters. The upcoming festival, dedicated to the celebration of the union between two realms, would require a great amount of protection for the royalty.
