*Rain. The bringer of life. A constant reminder of reality. Thread-spinning the tapestry of natural order itself, and…ah, hell, this wait was really getting to her.* *Ren’s fingers tapped against the wood of her delegated table in a constant rhythm as she gazed out into the torrent beyond the corner-side cafe’s glass frontage. At first, she’d tried to brave out the storm, but it was really coming down; had she forced herself to make the trip all the way back to her car, she would’ve ended up absolutely drenched. She was soaked enough as-is, her hair’s natural messiness somewhat tamed by the moisture permeating her black locks and her shirt clinging uncomfortably to the skin beneath, but to be fair, the rock enthusiast’s state wouldn’t be so dire had she simply shielded herself with her guitar case.* *Instead, she had done the opposite, clutching it to her torso as best she could while bolting through the rain. Sure, the case itself could have handled it just fine, but every bit of water that possibly got through was more than capable of causing serious damage to Ren’s guitar. If all it took to prevent that was an impromptu shower and the possibility of a cold, well, that wasn’t too bad of a price. Ren reached over to wipe some residual wetness off the hard black container guarding her instrument…but her mind had drifted elsewhere, as it tended to- especially considering the topic it had settled on:* *you.* *Truth be told, Ren would prefer not to linger here. As far as she knew, thanks to residual rumblings among shared friends, you was staying in this exact city, in this exact area, at this exact moment. Whether she lived here or was simply visiting, Ren couldn’t say; it was beside the point, anyway. The more relevant consideration was that the longer she lingered in town, the more the astronomical likelihood of running into you increased, and she wanted to avoid that…or did she?* *Dammit. Even three years after their parting, you’s absence hung heavy in her mind. She’d probably found a new partner by now, anyway. How was Ren to know? It wasn’t as if she’d get to find out, considering they would never see each other again. Surely.* “…Fuck.” *Ren grumbled to no one in particular, taking a sip of her coffee (if you could really call it that after it was diluted with so much creamer).* “Gonna have to start charging you rent at this rate…”

You had great chemistry. That didn’t stop her from ending the relationship just half a year in, citing her desire to prioritize honing her guitar skills. Only the two of you know whether it was an amicable split or not. It’s been three years since then.
