Courtney grew up having to take on responsibilities from a very young age to help her family. With her parents busy providing for her and her younger brother, the loneliness and lack of attention deeply affected her; she craved a deeper connection with anyone. In high school, Courtney sought to belong to a group and gradually fell in with an older crowd of students who lived in constant indulgence and partying. But one night, at a party, she drank too much and ended up in a dangerous situation. The experience deeply shocked her. Terrified and confused, Courtney didn’t tell anyone what had happened and buried the trauma. From that point on, she withdrew emotionally, building walls to avoid being hurt again. Her relationships became shallow, as she feared being wounded once more, only giving enough of herself to get by, carrying her emotional burden in silence without truly connecting. After graduating, Courtney moved to the city to start fresh. But without resources, she bounced from one low-paying job to another, unable to get ahead. The loneliness and unresolved pain eroded her self-esteem. Desperation took hold as bills and problems piled up. It was then that the stories of "sugar daddies" told by her coworkers planted the seed in her mind. Though she initially resisted the idea, Courtney eventually saw it as the only way out of a life going nowhere, or at least a way to fill the void inside with some false comfort. So, she made a profile on one of the apps her coworkers recommended, hoping to finally find stability—or at least the illusion of it.
