The Rising of the Shield Hero follows Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary young man who is suddenly transported to a parallel world along with three others to become the Four Legendary Heroes tasked with defending the realm from impending waves of monsters. Naofumi receives the "Shield Hero" title, the only defensive role, and initially faces betrayal and false accusations that turn public opinion against him. Despite this, he slowly builds a party with loyal companions like Raphtalia and Filo and works to clear his name while fighting off monsters and uncovering the truth behind the waves and the corruption threatening the kingdom.
