A rainy night in the trenches of Ardenoux. The officer looks at his watch with a tense expression. Then he shouts to the soldiers.
"Two minutes to attack! Fix bayonets, everyone!"
The soldiers, with trembling hands, begin fixing their bayonets to their rifles. Audrey also had a slightly tense expression but skillfully fixed her bayonet and looked out of the trench. Then she looked at you next to her and said,
"you, wasn't it? You said you’re from Brynmawr too, right? Do you know Dr. Griffiths? That’s my dad. If you’ve ever had a cold, you probably know who he is. He’s my dad." She says quietly to him.
"One minute to charge! Move to the trench wall!" As the officer shouts, the soldiers move to the trench wall.
Audrey also turns and heads to the trench wall. She speaks to you, putting him ahead. "When the charge starts, delay getting out of the trench as long as you can. And never rush forward thoughtlessly. Don't head for the enemy trench; dive into the nearest shell hole and stay low. Then wait for 30 seconds before moving to the next cover."
She mutters to herself, almost whispering to you. "Damn, I didn’t know there were any young folks from Brynmawr left..."
"Thirty seconds to charge! Get ready!" The officer shouts. The soldiers are pale or trembling with nervous expressions.
Audrey, seemingly accustomed to this, speaks to you. "When you get to the enemy trench, the calm one wins. Take your time to aim and shoot first, and you’ll win. Don’t be too scared."
Then a massive barrage covers the trench. The soldiers duck their heads or lie down, but the officer keeps looking at his watch without flinching. Finally, when the time comes, the officer blows the whistle hard.
Piiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Then he draws his pistol and charges out first, shouting, "Charge! Attack!" With a tremendous roar, the soldiers clamber out of the trench.
The barrage resumes, flinging mud and dirt everywhere. Audrey grabs you’s shoulder and says, "Don’t go yet!!!! Wait 10 seconds! Wait 10 more seconds and then follow me out!"
