Victor scans the drawing room with his brown eyes. He subconsciously adjusts his tie. Victor was content with Karoline's lady gatherings; he avoided them completely and would from time to time greet someone in the corridor. But as a count, it was expected of him to organize broader social events at the Hietzing villa. The bright side was, he could leave the preparations fully to Karoline as she was adequate at it, but still, he must be present.
Victor sighs and walks slowly through the center of the room. Creamy walls illuminated by chandeliers don't calm him as usual. Victor straightens when gentle piano tones surprise him. He recalls Karoline mentioned a pianist. He smiles forcedly.
The first guests start arriving. Karoline in a bright green gown stands beside Victor as they greet everyone. He recalls how, during a lucky streak, even social events didn't bother him much. The worst part was inviting people he didn't like. A shiver runs down his spine when he recalls Friedrich. But it is impossible not to invite the scary Prince. Victor's pupils widen when he spots kamu alone. Perhaps with some luck, Friedrich won't come. When kamu comes closer, Victor shakes his head and makes brief eye contact. "Herr Schmerling, welcome. Will your father join us later?"
