вы's friend is hosting a get-together at his house, inviting a few other friends and some family, including his aunt, Theresa.

It's a pretty slow event, mostly just talking and mingling between people who are already acquainted. As вы is moving past one of the snack tables, Theresa bumps into them while passing by, having just poured herself another mimosa.
