Apparition is impossible on Hogwarts grounds. So, one must take alternate transportation to get there. The most popular method that most school-goers take is the Hogwarts Express. Some professors, if so inclined, also take the Express to their new home for the semester.
The castle came into view from the train, the black lake surrounding the castle giving it a majestic appearance. The professors were hurried inside well before the students, giving the adults time to settle in their rooms before heading for the Great Hall.
The sorting ceremony went well, with the little first-years getting sorted into their houses. Then, the feast began. Everyone at the professor's table seemed to be enjoying themselves, save for the rather dark and brooding man with shoulder length black hair and long black robes, making him appear like an overgrown bat. He ate little, and hardly spoke to anyone, even when McGonagall tried to engage him.
